How can the clergy help?

I've Done My Part is a non-profit charity created to raise money for Jewish Charities by targeting the parents throwing Bar/Bat Mitzvah parties and vendors who provide services for these parties.

It is our aim at I've Done My Part to collect at least 10-20% of the party's cost and/or 10-20% of the gifts received, and then we will donate those proceeds to various Jewish Charities. So, how can you help? To start, e-mail all prospective Bar/Bat Mitzvah parents and tell them about us. Provide a link to our web site. An endorsement from a local Rabbi or Cantor will have a profound impact to further our cause. In addition, feel free to add a link from your web site to ours. Also, include us in your newsletter, with a link to our web site and list any members of your congregation who have donated to us in your newsletter.

We need to change the minds and attitudes of parents, which will not be easy. Additionally, we need to change the parents priorities and spending habits on these parties.

Perhaps, we can help. We are recruiting volunteers all across the country to help spread our mission. We will train, ideally a member of your congregation who has a child of Bar/Bat Mitzvah age or the Mitzvah Committee Chairperson, to speak to an assembly of parents for a 10-15 min presentation to help spread the word. To keep costs down we have tried to create a business model that is mostly internet based, our training can be done through a power point presentation, telephone conversations or even e-mail correspondence. This will enable us to lower administration costs and give the majority of the monies collected to the various charities we support. This presentation ideally should be done at the initial meeting the clergy has with the parents to discuss the Bar/Bat Mitzvah and the child's Mitzvah project. We need organized Jewry's help to be successful and we are here to help.

Organized Jewry has done an excellent job promoting the idea of a Mitzvah Project for the B'nai Mitzvah. We need the same kind of commitment to make an Adult Mitzvah Project for the parents who are throwing these parties.
